Includes information on sicknesses common to Confederate soldiers, and on conditions in Confederate hospitals; Stout's letters and reports as Medical Director of the Army of Tennessee; correspondence of other Confederate surgeons; and information on the difficulties of medical practice during the later days of the war, Stout's post-war activities, and his interest in the history of Confederate medical administration. The bulk of the material is of the period, 1861-1865.
